    I read somewhere on the Megathread that 1mm or 2mm would be preferred . I think the thinner the better.

    But, if I presume, that the locktite is used somewhat inside or internally, that getting at it with alcohol might be a problem. Whereas I presume that using a heat gun (hair dryer) might allow the tape to be removed.

    I think this will be just fine. I see no harm in trying to fix it yourself specially if you're in south america. Good luck
