Default You've got a 9900 or a 9930? Help me test my game - River Raid!

Hello all Blackberry gamers,

I've written a clone of the grandfather of all scrolling shooters - River Raid. It is already in App World for the all the older touchscreen models, i.e. Storm, Storm 2 and Torch ( free version - first 12 levels: RiverLite, full version - infinitely many levels - RiverRaider )

I have just finished porting it to the new Bold. Wanna help me test it? Just direct your Blackberry 9900 or 9930 at

www.koltunski.pl/blackberry

and download the game. I am most interested if the accelerometer works ok ( Bold 9900's screen is in Landscape mode and all previous models had their screen in Portrait, I might have messed up directions while porting accelerometer control and I don't have physical hardware to test it myself ).

Video: YouTube - River Raid now in your Nokia, Android & Blackberry phones!

Thanks for testing!

I know the 9900 form factor makes it a bit awkward to play accelerometer-controlled games like this one, but after watching the video I am still not sure what exactly is stopping you from playing in landscape mode? I hope you can hold the phone in both hands and use the right thumb to shoot?

Is the accelerometer working ok? I mean when you hold the phone in a 'normal' way and tilt it forward, the ship is supposed to speed up, when you tilt it back - slow down, left - turn left, etc. I am not sure if I got this right.

oh, ok I see. So I did not correctly rotate the accelerometer axis when porting from the Storm/Torch version.

I will correct that tomorrow ( it's almost 2am here now ) and post the new version. Thanks again!

Hey a-rabmoney,

You said you would test the syncing I asked about...why don't you follow through and do that? The least you can do is follow through and let me know if it worked or didn't!

the guys were saying it wouldn't make a difference because its not the OS, but the BIS, which will not get an update untill September, to 4.1

Worse yet, it's actually from the early 80's It's a port of a game released in 1982 and the graphics is a pixel-by-pixel rip-off.

As with such ports, there are people who played the original and like it , and those who did not and understandably think it is lame. So far the first camp appears to be more numerous, at least in the emails I get. But I don't rule out a modern-graphics version, though
