Default You've got a 9900, 9930, 9810, 9850 or a 9860? Test my game- Rubik Cube!

Hello all Blackberry gamers,

if you've got one of the newly released phones and like the Rubik Cube - point the browser in your phone to

http://koltunski.pl/bbrubik

download & install. It's a fully 3D, touch-controlled, 2x2x2,3x3x3 and 4x4x4 cube w/ global leaderboard.

I'd be thankful for any bugreports, criticism, words of praise are welcome, too! If you can, please run the 'speedtest' and tell me the phone model and how many FPS do you get.

Thanks.. Come out with this after I already purchased the official one from app world for my 9650 at the time

I can solve the 3x3x3 in 35 seconds and the 5x5x5 in 5 minutes, I used to be a hardcore cuber [; I'll leave my feedback on this [:

EDIT:

BAHHH! Looks so promising too :/ completely glitches out on my Bold 9930. It flashes the screen like crazy with the rubiks cube and all of the text like the timer and everything.. It completely bugs out! Then I get an error message and it closes :/

"java.lang.IllegalStateException: Client surface already associated with this graphics surface."

Bahhhhhhhh I wanna play with it so bad! Please see what you can do, I'll stay posted on this thread.

anxiously waiting for an updated version :/

Managed to get the speed test to run though and although it was glitchy, it said that it was 54FPS (I have a Bold 9930)

Damn... At least the good news is that 9930 is fast enough to render it - 54FPS is more than enough.

The game is a port of my Rubik's cube for Nokia ( http://store.ovi.com/content/26449/reviews ). It runs flawlessly in a BB emulator. Obviously a real phone is somehow different, hence the flashes. The problem is that I don't have any of the new touchscreen Blackberries to test it myself. Hold on while I ponder what to do...

@flip4life4751 : I don't believe you can do 5x5x5 I know quite a few cubers, and even 4x4x4-ers were few and far between... In Ovi store, the game has been downloaded about 3000 times and so far I've got only 2 people (1 russian, 1 romanian) who have demonstrated they can do 4x4x4 ! Good news is the underlying code supports any size, so giving you a 5x5x5 or 17x17x17 for that matter is just a recompilation away. I just didn't believe there was anyone out there up for the challenge so I compiled it for up to 4x4x4 only.

@SCrid2000 : version for non-touchscreens will eventually land here, too, (I've got such a version for Nokia ) but that's after I solve the flashing problem.

No need anymore, yesterday I laid my hands on a 9810 for a moment and saw this - pretty cool psychedelic effect you gotta admit

Bad news is I still have no idea what can it be.

Haha yeah, a little trippy :P but that's bad news! I guess I wouldn't be AS angry if the stupid makers of the actual rubiks cube app that I bought for like $5 updated it for my phone. Makes me sad

Please let us know if you figure out the problem tho!

It installs and doesn't crash on my 9810 however the screen is really spastic constantly flashing back to the launch screen but letting me move the cube around and use the controls perfectly. It just won't stop flashing the inital screen over and over. I'm unsure of how to make a video or I would. Looks very, very promising.

edit: I failed to read the entirety of the thread. I'm glad you know what I'm talking about lol.

I have posted an update ( same place, http://koltunski.pl/bbrubik ) .
It still says the version is '1.2', I forgot to increment it. Anyway, maybe someone could test?

An update again - this time to version 1.3.0. The flashes should be gone, I think I understand the issue now ( it is actually OS7 'Liquid Graphics' biting me in the rear end )

I can see people trying to download on a 9800, or a 9670 - it's not going to work there, it requires a touchscreen AND OpenGL support. Apart from the newly released batch it should also work on a Storm2, which is another touchscreen BB with support for OpenGL, but I am afraid it's going to be rather slow there...

Nice work, it's actually playable now!

A few things:

-Back button automatically exits out no matter where you are (preferably it should go back a screen on the menu or even back a move if possible)
-If you have it run in the background (ie pressing end key or holding down BlackBerry button to switch apps) then on returning to the game, you get an error message saying javalang illegal something or other.
-The menu HAS to be navigated using the touchscreen and no trackpad support which confused me at first.
-Kinda strange that there is no just sit down and solve the rubiks cube.. You have to literally go through enough "levels" to finally get to one that is mixed up enough to solve it how you normally would. Just kinda weird for a rubiks cube game that there is no just "scramble" with a timer starting right off the bat.

Otherwise, looks good! I'll get through a few levels later and solve it to get the complete experiance of the app.

Thanks for the update!
