I'm thinking that hitting the circle at the bottom is not closing Apps but merely minimising them. How do you close them?

Hit square and then either swipe the app away or press x?

Two step process. One of the differences from BlackBerry 10.

This is *generally* a bad idea on an Android device (the system will kill apps as required to manage memory on its own) but the above is how to do it if you have a reason to (e.g. the app is misbehaving and you want to re-start it.)

    How is it any different?

Android: press square, swipe thumbnail to close
BB10: swipe up, swipe thumbnail to close

Ok, one more question re this so I fully understand.

To close an app on the 60 I hit the square and flick the app left or right. If I do this then return to Settings/ Battery/ I see a list of apps that have been used since the last charge. Those same apps that I thought I had closed are showing the option to 'Force Stop'. In effect then, they are not closed by flicking left or right? Am I thinking this correctly?

Many apps run services in the background, for such things as notifications and such. You need not worry about it, because Android memory management is very good.

Google browser will always open to the last visited page. Before closing the browser hit the Home button, top left.

When you close the browser the page and the browser close together. When you re-open the browser it re-loads the pages that were open when you closed it. This can be useful in some circumstances. But if you don't want this to happen then close the pages before you close the browser :-) Have fun.

Activities (the screen you see in an app) are paused as soon as it's not on your screen anymore. Android will also kill the activities if they are paused and it needs the memory. It's really not something you need to worry about. Force closing is the only way to manually kill an apps services
