I just bought an unlocked Detek50. I LOVE it so far.
I tried to go to BlackBerry World and it took me to the Google Play store. I had some paid for apps on my BlackBerry Classic. Did I lose them? If not, how do I get them on my Dtek50?

Unfortunately yer SOL bud. Different OS'S different Appstores.
Welcome to team BlackBerry! You will find a lot of options that are free I the Google play store
Unfortunately BlackBerry world apps won't cross over to android but as @Carjackd stated above most stuff is free on the android os

Free but be prepared to deal with ads to help pay the developer. Many apps have a modest upgrade fee to eliminate ads, so if you find an app you like, consider paying for the upgrade.
Read the reviews for apps that interest you, to get a feel for the frequency and intrusiveness of the ads on that particular app. If the ads are overly intrusive, look for an alternative.
Many good apps are free and have no ads as well.
If you are new to Android, many Forum members here can help provide insights into app choices and subsequent settings to help control unwanted permissions, notifications and data charges.
Oh yeah forgot to mention that =)

Some apps warrant the paid option for sure
If you look hard enough. There are some hidden gems that are truly free. But do you research
Which apps? Perhaps people will be able to suggest good alternatives.

I would immediately suggest ASUS File Manager, Textra ( and pay 2.99 for the Pro version), Accueweather (and again pay the 1.99 or so) Stealth Icon pack and Google Wallpaper app to any new BlackBerry Android user. I also like and prefer Nova Launcher Prime for the UI and flexibility. Enjoy your DTEK50. I just set one up for our son and he is enamoured.
If your after a calculator there's an APK file somewhere to the Asus calculator. No adds and a convertor. More like the BB one.
+1 on Nova Launcher. You'll get addicted to customizing...
