The Classic was available on Amazon (US) immediately upon release and was even being showed there before. I see no sign of the Dtek 50.

My guess would be since DTEK 50 is still on Pre-Order at BlackBerry, you can only get it/pre-order through BlackBerry. Once pre-orders are filled you'll probably see Amazon selling it and possibly carrier sales.

That wasn't the case with the Classic though. It was being advertised and I got it into my hands two days after release.

Well, I'm pretty certain....but could be wrong but I believe the Classic was a substantially large launch across the board including BlackBerry, Amazon, and multiple US Carriers with no exclusives. I don't think there was a "pre-order" period. Just an "available date". Which is different from a "pre-order" period. But I could be wrong.

There clearly are other brands that "pre-order" allows for simultaneous availability across sellers so I don't know but maybe BlackBerry is just controlling inventory?

Blackberry Classic had pre-orders as that is what I did. It was sent out early if I recall.

Passport was exactly the same way in the U.S.

I just wonder if they got burnt on PPT or PRIV. Or, Chen pays less $$ to Digital River. Any case, lousy marketing choices. BH Photo has it on pre-sale though.

The only ones I see for sale are not from Amazon.
I'm not from the US or Canada, so I'm not sure if my CC will work with shopBB. I remember pre-ordering the Classic and cancelling because Amazon with prime would have gotten it quicker to me, I can't remember if I was using my CC or my sis US cc with shopBB.
I'll be in the US for a week soon, so I'm hoping I can pick it up when I'm there. Guess I'll just have to wait to see it it appears or get the Priv. By the way I thought the Priv price dropped. I still see it on Amazon for $612.

Also, slightly out of topic.. The advantage to use a rebranded hardware is that there are already available tons of accessories like cases, screen protectors etc.. Never seen so many options since the Bold times!!!

Probably somebody or company who pre-ordered a bunch from BlackBerry is putting them on Amazon for sale at 329 to make a small profit. At an extra $30 could make enough to cover own phone and then some.
