Wow. $299. Only $100 premium over Idol 4 WITH hardware root of trust and other BlackBerry apps and hardening.
That is a bit better than I was expecting. $100 premium.

    Hmm... almost tempted...

If the carriers don't pick this one up they're IMHO insane. It will be a very solid performer and with the ability to "marry" a fast SD card the 16Gb of internal storage is a non-issue since unlike the iPhones it's expandable.

You'll want a U3 card to do that for performance reasons but a 32Gb U3 card is $15 (64Gb is about $30). If you run out of storage that's the answer to the problem and it's far less expensive than the standard "rape you" answer that Apple uses (buy it again, since storage on their devices is fixed at manufacturing with no SD slot)

128Gb U3 cards are still too expensive, but the smaller-capacity ones are reasonable in cost and the best part of a design like this is that the user can add it if and when he needs it and doesn't have to guess in advance how much storage he requires.

That hasn't exactly been working for them.
Please name one phone BB has released that has Android, a pkb, decent specs, and a decent price. Unless that exists, you have no way of knowing how that will perform based on the sales of any of their other devices since there was always another factor that played against them that wasn't the keyboard.

I agree with one caveat: it would appear that those who want a pkb at any cost (Priv - expensive, Passport and Classic - BB10) are few and far between.

Nobody wants anything at any cost, unless they are rich, lol.

Maybe BlackBerry has gotten smart. 299 is a smokin deal.

But carriers sell phones by the month. So I'm curious how the DTEK phones will really be marketed.

I think the pricing and the release are bold and admirable moves.
