I am buying a BlackBerry 9320 as a backup phone. It is running OS7. Is it possible to use it without a data plan but only over wifi?

it can be used over wifi, but not for BBM.

You require a plan with BBM and then it works just fine over wifi. Data plans are not compatible with BB Curves. I have a data plan with Virgin Mobile Can with BBM and regular data and nothing except bbm works anywhere. Email on a Curve wil not connect to smtp , pop or imap. BB connects to BB ser ers and they access email. No plan = no apps. Browser will work though.

Has anyone/any group done a work around to this yet? Native browser will insist data plan, but 3rd party browsers work on WiFi without data plan.

Yes yes yes.. u can use bbm over wifi without any ****ty plan over mobile network IF the phone is running BBOS 7/7.1
And if u are getting a new one.. then it will surely be running the latest one..
I have a curve in my home and bbm works over wifi in the device without any plan...

Hit via the sexiest phone there is. Did sumone say the Z10?

My experience is no. Without bis service I have been unable to get anything to work on my old OS7 phone. I believe that is by design, but someone can chime in if I'm wrong.

You certainly can't do any email (that's what I wanted) and BBM can only be on 1 device at a time. If there's a Web browser that works...well that's the last thing I would consider using an old bb7 phone for.
