Default General email and bbm questions from newby

I've had the Playbook for a while but just got a Curve 9360 to see how bad it is compared to the iPhone and Android phones.
Must admit that it seems 1 generation or more behind.
The new BB10 phones will catch up I am sure and the only issue is the number and quality of apps.

My question is, I have just a talk and text plan with Virgin Mobile Canada.
Can I BBM or email through wi-fi? Can I BBM through the cellular network?

Do I need some other packages to do any of this? I know (or think I know) I need additional packages to email through the cellular network.

Thanks. Do I need a data plan or anything if I want to go through wi-fi, since it will not use the carrier's cellular network.

You need a BLACKBERRY Data Plan if you want to access data features such as email and BBM even over WiFi.
