Doesn't necessarily follow that 2G will give better battery life. It will also depend on the relative qualities of the 2G and 3G signals where you use your phone. As an example, I have a 3G-only filler mast within 100m of my home, and the main 2G/3G site is about 1.5 miles away. On a day at home I will see 3G battery drain about half of what I get on 2G.
Yes switching to EDGE does makes a difference in battery life, but also on your apps too, eg it will depends what apps you are using but FB for BB will load photos slow, the average speed of the app willl decrease thus making the app load other features slow too, Twitter refreshes will be slow, well on UberSoc there isn't much difference with the refreshes, but if you are a person who doesn't mind about the device's speed its okay, but my question (to RIM) is....why should we even switch to 2G on our 3G devices due to an OS that chows battery liKe this? I'm sure if we wanted 2G we would have sticked to the 8520's ....... This is very irritating!!!!!!!!!
