Question 9360: safe to delete .dat files?

    Hi Crackheads!

My daughter's 9360 2gb SD card is full. She has only about 50 megs of music and and photos. The big hog files are thumbs16x16.dat and thumbs480x480.dat, located on the card at blackberry/system/media. These two files account for over 1.5gb.

What is the purpose of these files? Is it safe to delete them? If not, can they be moved to the device storage rather than the card?

    Thanks!

You can delete them but they will be recreated the next time you access your pictures. It is the file system for you pics.

It would best to get a bigger card or delete some pics.

back up the important stuff then reformat the card. once that's done, just restore your files.

Those files from .../media can be safely deleted. But the will be created again, so you must constantly go and delete the files.
