    Does anybody know how to do this? I have tried what it says on the Blackberry website but it didn't work!

    Yeah, I think the only way to fully power off a Blackberry is to take the battery out?

    When you turn it off using the software or hardware button it just seems to go into a kind of sleep mode.

    Give it a try! The boot-time is incraesed with full battery off (about 4-5 times).
