BB won't charge, except from computer

Hi guys,

Bit of an odd one. Discovered by BB won't charge from car/wall socket etc - only when plugged into my computer.
Have tried the chargers on other handsets, and they work fine.

Any ideas?

That is odd. Are you using the wall charger that came with the BlackBerry? Newer BlackBerry devices come with higher current capacity chargers than the original 5V, 500mA chargers. I could see how you might have a problem using a new phone with an old charger. PC USB ports are typically 5V, 500mA as well. That's why they sometimes won't charge a BlackBerry. I've never read of a BlackBerry that could only be charged by PC. Is there anything unusual about your setup?

Hi Jeff,

Yes I am using the charger that came with the handset, and have tried a new charger I purchased too.
No response when plugged into car or wall socket, but when into my laptop - charges away quite happily.

Do you always use the same cable when charging from your computer? And the same USB port? Do you get a different result if you use a different cable, a different port, or a different PC? If you find it only charges with one particular cable and no others, then you may have a defective USB port that just happens to work with one particular cable. That would be unexpected, but I can't think of another scenario. Perhaps someone else will.

Hi Jeff,

Both cables work, all USB ports on my laptop work, as do those on my partners laptop.

I think there is something defective in the charging circuitry on your device, but I don't know what it is. If your device is new, you could consider exchanging it. Or you can live with it if there are no other problems. If you find an explanation, please post it. Someone else may have the same problem and find this thread.
