youtube, wap streaming?
Hi all, I tried to view a youtube clip (the one about the innocase 360) and it comes up switch to wap for streaming. I am sure that here in the uk I get charged for wap despite having unlimited data, o2 told me anything I look at via hotspot or internet browser is free, anything via wap is charged! Is this right or are there some settings I can change?

Hmm... I had the same thing come up on my Curve too.
I've just checked my bill online and it says;
18 Apr 09 21:00:00 blackberry.net 42 0.000
19 Apr 09 00:00:00 blackberry.net 4231 0.000
19 Apr 09 16:29:35 wap.o2.co.uk 113 0.000
The wap.o2.co.uk on is when I started to watch something on Youtube, so I'm guessing it's included (the last column is charge). They did charge me something like 34p for my first day of browsing, but I'm guessing that's due to their server realising I'd swapped over to my BB. - 04-27-2009, 08:14 AM #3
This is interesting. I have a Simplicity 20 conand ask questions.tract which means that I use my 8900 and plug in an O2 SIM. I only use this when I visit the UK.
I just had a long conversation on Skype about this.
It seems that with my contract I am allowed to use any part of the web included in the contract without further charges unless what I download is chargable (mp3s from paysites). If I do this, then I will see an on-screen message telling me that I will be charged.
I am still in month one of my 30 day rolling contract so I have not seen any month by month charges as yet.
I suggest that you call O2 on 0870 600 3009 and ask questions.ab
The help desk was helpful but the CSR I got knew nothing out BlackBerry (because they are special, she said).
It would be useful to know what types of contracts you all have and if the OP wants it, I will move this thread to the carrier forum where I think it may get more hits/comments. - 04-29-2009, 06:48 PM #5
All I know is Blackberry service's server won't allow us to stream youtube...so when the browser initiates to watch the video it will ask to switch to wap which means we will get charged again (I'm guessing per kb or mb)...so right now whenever I want to watch youtube I just turn on my wifi...
