It's been an issue since the phone launched. While mine is able to sustain an active wifi connection to my WRT54G for literal days on end, I have no end of difficulty at random non-chain coffee shops and... wait for it.... AT&T STORES HAHAHAHA.
All I can recommend at this juncture is to perform a battery bull, re-register on the host routing table, confirm that you have a good cellular data connection, and try again. Also, try changing the channel your wireless access point broadcasts on. Mine is on channel 6, 2.437 GHz, and I seldom have issues with any 802.11b or g devices, from my 8900, through my DS, PSP, laptop, and Wii. Visiting devices connect without issue, too... so maybe emulate my setup?
Linksys WRT54G V4 with Tomato firmware v1.28
Wireless channel 6
Wireless power set to 64 mW instead of the default 48mW.
