Uncaught Exception ..
I've had my Curve 8900 for exactly a month. One day (out of nowhere) I tried accessing my text messages and the phone froze for about 5 minutes, and I recieved the error message:
"Uncaught Exception: Applicationnet_rim_bb_messages.app(88) .. Not responding. Process terminated"
I tried wipes, battery pulls, etc. and the problem has continued. Not only does it happen for texts, but I cannot even access the phone at all, pressing the number keys doesn't work, but strangely enough the internet and applications work. After days of frustration I recieved a warranty replacement through the mail (bc apparently T-Mobile doesn't carry 8900 warranty phones in store bc the phone is still "new"). Within 5 minutes of putting in the SIM card into the new phone I received the same error and freeze !!
Has anyone experienced this before / is there anything to do about it to fix the situation versus just getting another replacement phone ? Thanks for the help !Last edited by BroJules211; 06-05-2009 at 10:10 AM.

Strange. Try to get a new SIM card.

I was thinking that, but do you think the SIM card could cause a problem that doesn't allow applications essential to the phone like the phone itself and reading text messages ?

Yep... it is the only common part.... they should replace it for free in the store... it takes like 2 minutes!!

I took the media card out though and the same problem happened a little after a wipe, so the SIM card is the only common factor. The only problem is I spent like an hour on the phone with the people from RIM, not even T-Mobile could figure it out, and they said they highly doubted that the problem was the SIM card .. Has anyone ever gotten this error message before ? The SIM is relatively new, only about a month or two old ..

sim? yeah right
definitely!, doubt it
sim card preventing access to an actual device's default operations?
too many people put fear into the sim card from what i read on here from time to time.
let's not forget, the sim's primary feature is to access the networks, not access the devices in question.
i would think that maybe there is an actual problem with the device and/or OS.
you should start, and i am assuming that RIM has already asked you, looking into what was installed recently, whether OS or apps in general.
try to remember any sort of complications you had prior to this occurrence and also think if it's possible that the berry may have dropped, sat on, applied excessive pressure etc...
i know that i had a problem similar to yours, when i answered my berry with wet hands and the water ran down in through the keys and rendered the berry inoperable for about 12 hours.
after that it worked perfectly fine.
though i was stressing it out like crazy and no, not once did i assume it was the sim card... - 06-06-2009, 12:47 PM #8
Did you even read this post before posting?
The OP has already tried wiping the device, etc. The OP even already got a replacement device and still had the same problems after putting the SIM card in the new device. Also, read the error message received:
"Uncaught Exception: Applicationnet_rim_bb_messages.app(88) .. Not responding. Process terminated"
That sounds like a communication error to me which can easily be caused by the SIM card screwing up and not connecting to the network correctly. Also the OP's problem is not that they keyboard does not work all the time, the problem is that the OP receives errors when trying to access the Phone and the Messages while other applications work just fine.
Besides, swapping out the SIM card is easy, free and has a good chance (in this case) of solving the problem. What is the deal with all this friction against giving that a try when in the very least, we can eliminate another variable in the equation that is this problem?"There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't."How To Search ~ Search Effectively ~ Crackberry 101 ~ WiFi Guide ~ UMA Guide ~ SD Card Info ~ BB Browsers Explained

I've been having problems like this since I got my 8900 many many months ago.
I have replaced the SIM card, and I've also replaced the phone, itself. I've attempted multiple installs of practically every "leaked" OS revision and I still suffer from the same problems. Very slow 'context switching' times and lots of uncaught exceptions.
Its gotten so bad that I'm considering going back to my original Curve.
In any case, I don't think its the SIM card because when I replaced mine, it made no difference.

Sounds like operator error..... I was one of the first people in america on crackberry to have my 8900 and have had no issues like this....
Hehehe.... I still think as aristile said it is an easy fix and would eliminate the only thing that is common between two different phones! The next thing I would try is a complete wipe....install default OS and do not restore you contacts, or anything like apps on the phone for a few hours and see if this issue pops back up. Then you should add a few BBM contacts and see if it occurs. If not then restore your contacts and such but no apps.... Then if all runs well after a few hours add one app at a time and wait in between each on to see if your issues come back!!

Exactly, Cilantro. These are the steps the OP should take after getting a new SIM card. Since the SIM card might be the problem, it is not necessary to spend the time testing out all the other parts of the system (contacts, etc) until the SIM card is ruled out as the cause of the problem.

Problem solved !!! (For now ... Haha)
Thank to all of you who tried to help me solve this problem. Aristile and Clintro, I think you guys were on the right track with the SIM card .. I wiped the original phone and didn't import my contacts and everything worked fine for a few days. Just to see what would happen, I imported the contacts and not even 5 minutes later I got the freeze and error. So once I recieved the second replacement phone I went to and got the SIM replaced and everything has worked fine so far, about 48 hours out ..
Thanks again for all of your help ! Have a blessed one ! - 06-11-2009, 07:12 AM #16
