Default UMA problem...tried EVERYTHING!

I am all of a sudden having a problem connected to UMA with my 8900. Now before everyone jumps all over this, I have tried just about everything I can find related to this issue.

I have done multiple battery pulls, just upgraded phone software (was on .231 now .250), I have upgraded my router's firmware, I have tried the port forwarding and wireless settings in the UMA guide on this site. All with the same problem, when I go into the WiFi diagnostics it just says "Wireless network error" beside UMA status.

I am connected to the network no problem, have an IP address and connected to BIS through WiFi, but no UMA.

I have had this phone since December and it was working fine up until yesterday and nothing has changed hardware wise.

Any ideas?

No, I don't have another one right now to try unfortunately...but the strange thing is that nothing has changed...it's the same router and setup i have been using for 6 months.

The other strange thing too, is when I watch the WiFi diagnostics screen, every so often it tries to make a UMA connection and the "Serving UNC address" field changes to some jibberish and then back the rogers address.

Its wierd...

Strange....I work in a building that is wired for wifi and it works perfect everywhere when I am at work. When I am home, I always had problems. I bought a Tmobile at home router made for UMA calls and since then I have not had a problem. The Tmobile router seems to almost partition a part of bandwidth just for UMA calls....it has worked perfect. I am sure this has been written somewhere but this router solved ALL of my problems. good luck!!

T-Mobile home routers are Linksys routers... I've always had very good luck with Linksys equipment... I have the home router as well, but it's for my home phone service mainly... UMA is just an additional benefit!!!

I have tried a full power reset on everything! I have multiple routers and switches, have reset them all in frustration!!

The wireless router is a Linksys and like I said it has been working flawlessly for 6 months! I've never even had any of the other problems people have been talking about with the dropped calls and handoffs, its been perfect!

I don't even have the talkspot service or anything, it was just like you said an additional benefit for certain areas of my house where I don't get a great signal.

And also I'm a bit neurotic and it bothers me that it doesn't work even though I hardly ever use it.

I had the same problem just today, exact same situation as you sdomingues. Like fatboy97 said, the power reset fixed everything. In my case it was just the wireless router that needed reset.

Thanks.

My Linksys modem had worked flawlessly for about 5 years until just a couple weeks ago... finally replaced mine and the new one is working great... the old one is now in the trash... they do go bad... I'm not saying you will have this issue, but a power reset is good every once in a while.

I'm glad I could help!!! Good luck in the future.

Default had a great idea

Hey guys

i don't write often on these things, but I had similar problems.

I've been told that there is some sort of RAM in a router (don't quote me on that). Obviously unpluging it will reset everything and free up memory.

SOLUTION: I attached my modem and router to a electricity timer. Every night at 3AM the power turns off for 1 minute; Reseting both. When I awake it's as if nothing happened, and UMA and WIFI are up and running like normal.

If I have a problem in the future, it's usually related to the phone... ie unplug and replug the batt.

enjoy your wifi and UMA time!

I just had a similar problem today the UMA would not connect so I used the BATT QUICK PULL software thing and it got back connected. I have unlimited minutes so UMA does not matter for me in that respect. But I need it for signal. Cux my home signal here with TMO is no good. The UMA works great to give me signal now.
