Trouble Updating OS
Hey all
I have a BB 8900 that is currently running V4.6 I would like to update it to V5.0 Rogers or related.
The issue is when I begin DM manager... And check for Blackberry Device updates... An option for 5.0 (preferred) v4.6 current and a downgrade option pops up.
So I select 5.0 and click next....Then the following message pops up.
" There was an error updating your software"
This BlackBerry® Device Software upgrade includes new features and significant enhancements to the BlackBerry® solution and, as such, is only available to users with an active BlackBerry subscription. To learn more about BlackBerry® service, please visit BlackBerry - Data Plan - Upgrade Your BlackBerry Data Plan.
What does this mean? How can I by-pass this?
Thanks in advance - 11-18-2010, 09:41 AM #2
It shouldn't be necessary, but try this. Make sure that you have the proper OS INSTALLED to your pc. Then diconnect from the webz. Run the loader and should be good to go.

1 ) download and install the software to your PC.
2 ) go to this folder on your PC
and delete the vendor.xml file. [do not close the folder]C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
3) plug in your phone to the computer via the USB cable.
4) go to back to the folder on your PC.
5) double click on AppLoader.exe and follow the wizard.
==============================================
No need to disconnect the computer from the internet. The reason why most people recommend doing that is fairly simple. Each Phone has a VendorID that is locked into the device. And each OS has a VendorID lock in it. Meaning only Software A can be installed on Phone A. You cannot install OS B onto device A. But deleting the Vendor.xml file deletes that lock. By running the Desktop Manager, the DM will automatically check VendorIDs, so by disconnecting it from the internet you are not allowing that to happen. But running the AppLoader you not forcing it to check IDs you are force feeding the OS onto the phone.
