Switching from 8800 to 8900
I acquired a BB 8800 in the Spring and I have really been enjoying the phone. It is currently running 4.5. My only issues with it are the small amount of memory and how slow it runs compared to new models. At any rate, I've ordered an 8900 and will have that some time next week. I've got quite a few themes and apps for the 4.5 OS. I'm wondering - will any of that work on the 8900 or will I have to purchase new apps designed for 4.6?
I'd appreciate any response to this as I am a little anxious about having to start over and would like to know for certain one way or another. Thanks much. Linda - 09-26-2009, 01:40 AM #2
The apps and themes will not work for the 8900. The 8900 will be on os 4.6. If you contact the developers and ask if you could redownload the apps again for free for the 8900 that may work. You will like the 8900. Its a great phone. I love mine. I've had it since March.

All you can do is use the device switch wizard and give it a try. The themes definitely will not work because themes can only work for the specific devices they were designed for. The apps are going to be hit or miss and it just depends there. You really just need to try and see. The good news is that most application developers will allow you to download the version for your new device and then switch your license to that new PIN. You will just need to contact them directly for more information. Good Luck.
