Power consumption with OE pouch resolved?
Was the power consumption issue (with phone running in OE sleeve) ever resolved? I went through the threads on the subject and it seems many people here experienced the problem but other than not using the sleeve alltogether no other acknowledgement from the BB was ever received - is that the current state of things? I am deliberating whether I want to put something like Innocase II skin like others or get another BB sleeve - is there any information on whether this other BB holster causes the same issue? How about Seidio holster or any other holster/sleeve with magnet? Thanks!

I think the "solution" is to work the case out a bit so that it does not fit so snug on the phone. I don't think anyone knows for sure but I suspect the problem is due to the camera button being pushed while in the case, it could easily be any button though.

Could it just be that instead of the phone being in "standby" mode, its just like a keypad lock mode?
I noticed that when I put my phone into Standby, then put it into the case, the lock mode changes and it is unlocked when removed from the case.
So I'm wondering instead of the power-saving standby mode, its in some different mode that isn't as friendly on the battery. - 02-25-2009, 02:08 PM #4
Ive noticed with mine that the caps button was pressed everytime I popped it into the supplied pouch, Ive since stuffed my old 8310 into the pouch to make it stretch a bit and now it dosnt do it

I go back and forth on using Lock or Standby when in the pouch. Sometimes times when Locked, when i remove it from the pouch i'm on the 2nd or 3rd attempt to unlock. I doubt i would ever get to the 10 failed attempts, but still an issue. But, also sometimes when i use standby, when removing from the pouch the phone is no longer in standby, assuming the Mute button was accidentally pressed.

As aristile has stated, there is no need 2 lock and unlock the keypad b4 putting it in the holster. It is not an OS issue. It is simply that the holster that ships with the 8900 is a little tight and the vinyl just needs 2 b "worked" a little 2 loosen it

I am no expert, but i believe that Standby does just what it says. From what i have read, it disables Non-vital functions of the phone in order to save battery and avoid accidental key presses. (Holding the End/Power button will still turn your phone off) You can still receive calls, e-mail and notifications. In the Profiles options, you have probably noticed that there are 2 options, Out Of Holster and In Holster. I have to state that i am VERY new to the BB community and i am learning as i go. But from what i have read, i believe Holstering you phone (maybe only certain holsters?) is the same as Standby? If anyone would like to confirm or deny that claim please do. Sorry i am unable to inform you of exactly what functions are turned off.

I went through this thread yesterday - which is why I ask. My impression from reading that thread was the sleeve itself rather than inadvertently pressing a button when bb was pouched was causing the power drain. Even placing bb on top of the pouch seemed to have caused the drain...Any information on whether any of the other OE BB sleeves on this site cause the same issue? Incidentally, some posts here refered to 'Autostandby' feature - is there a setting somewhere within BB configuration that allows you to enable/disable this feature? Thanks.

I guarantee that the battery drain is not caused by the magnet. BB's have used a magnet in the holster 2 make it standby 4 years, so the possibility of them getting the coding wrong which causes the battery 2 drain abnormally is almost impossible (unless they left it 2 the work xperience guy!!!)

That sounds like a reasonable cause to me - either magnet is putting BB into mode other than the one that disables all non-essential features (standby - if that is in fact what it is) or like you suggested the OS (.144 in my case) isn't handling correctly entering 'standby' mode when it detects the magnet...

That's not really what I'm suggesting. From my experience, and my logic, I can only assume that it is the tight case that is causing the problem and NOT an issue with the magnet/software. This is my KISS hypothesis (Keep It Simple Stupid).

My OEM pouch is working great now. I actually bought the 83xx pouch and it fit really well, but now it became overly loose as I used it more.
In conclusion: 83xx pouch gets looser making the 8900 a loose fit. OEM 8900 pouch gets looser making the 8900 a perfect fit. - 02-25-2009, 05:23 PM #21
I just flexed it with my hand. I didn't have an 83xx 2 use either. Pinch the sides that have the stitching running down them 2gether a good few times. Keep putting the 8900 in and out of it so it adjusts 2 the size. Keep with it and extended battery life will be yours!!

Short of using 83xx series BB are there any good ways to stretch the pouch without tearing it apart? Thanks.
