Can someone please direct me to a post that discusses directions on upgrading?

I have an unlocked tmobile 8900 that i use on ATT and i need to know how to upgrade using ATT software....i have read something about deleting the carriers xml file??

If I upgrade will I lose all my apps and launchers or will they still be on my phone?? I thought i read somewhere on here about a way to download apps and launchers to a file on my computer??
