New SMS notifier but "No Messages"

I've had this problem a couple of times with my 8900 and at first thought it was down to my email encryption on my enterprise server. But I've since found out that SMS don't go through enterprise.

My home screen currently shows that I have 8 SMS messages, but when I go into the folder there are "No Messages" it will also occasionally show on the homescreen the red star over the SMS icon to indicate a new message and there still isn't any there. I worry that I'm not actually receiving SMS messages.

The problem reoccured after coming back from the US last week, so not sure if the change over between carriers was to blame or if we had an OS update in the last week. Last time I was so frustrated I put my BB in a glass of water to get a replacement.
