Need Help! Software Error 552
My 8900 randomly freaked out and had the black hour glass on yesterday. In order to sort the problem, I did a battery pull. Upon doing so, I got a white screen saying: Reload Software: 552. I looked it up and that means I need to do an OS reset.
So, I read the 101 on doing a nuked BB, downloaded and installed OS .206, opened app loader, then plugged in my BB, etc.
However at the Connect to your Device Step of the Upgrading Your Device Process I get this message:
The desktop loader is unable to connect to the device.
You may need to enter the password on the device.
What do I do?! There is no location for the password… -

try using crackmem to whipe device and re-install OS, also when installing OS make sure you remove the vedor.xml file, crackmem can do this also

the thing is when i used the apploader it still prompted me whether or not i wanted to reinstall all of the software/programs that i have now... however, i just keep getting stuck at that roadblock (enter the device password...)
if i use crack mem is there anyway to backup 3rd party applications?
btw i deleted the vendor file before starting -

Try just hitting enter at the "device password" screen.

c is for crackberry:
it's too late to back up the third party apps though because DM does not recognize the phone
Ldubs:
i dont actually see a password at the device password screen... on apploader it tells me to either click retry/cancel (upon prompting me for the device password)
on the device the screen is still white with the software error:552 - 04-16-2009, 04:28 PM #7
Its sounds like a hard wipe is needed here. Luckily apps are easy to re-download. Its a pain, yeah. But easier than a Windows wipe and re-load.

What about my BBM contacts
?
Any other opinions before I go ahead and do hard wipe? Do I use crackmem to do this?
Luckily, a created a backup a day or two ago... I should be able to restore from there after the wipe right?Last edited by gibbs0828; 04-16-2009 at 04:46 PM. Reason: left out info

Anyone know what I should do?
Thanks in advance. - 04-16-2009, 07:29 PM #10
yes you can. Use crackmem to erase your phone. It will essentially brick it. Then use Loader.exe found in the same folder as vendor.xml and install your OS. Then you will have to restore your contacts from your previous backup and reconfigure your apps.

I'm a little confused. I read the crackmem 101 but still a little tricky as it doesn't really address bricked phones.
Do I start with crackmem and then plug it in?
Or plugged in and then open?
Do I just selected the operating system and then press execute selections? Or do I press wipe device? Or, is it put it back? - 04-16-2009, 08:02 PM #12
You should have DM running and showing as connected to your phone. Then open crackmem and have it wipe your phone. Then when its done, update your OS.
By executing selections, you are telling crackmem to remove the features you selected, etc. After you hit execture selections, hit wipe and then use DM or Loader.exe to install the new OS. - 07-06-2009, 12:05 PM #13
gibbs0828, did you have any luck after wiping with crackmem? I have the same problem you were having. The desktop lost connection with the device before installing the OS. Please let me know if it connects after wiping with crackmem. Thanks.

Reload Software 552
tried everything to sort this out and nothing works. Can't get Desktop Manager to recognise it and with the wipe device function on crackmen I get the message 'The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator'
