My 8900 Arrived Today.... Broken!
I finally received my 8900 today. I was all excited to get it working but before I put the SIM card or battery in it I gave it a quick once over. Unfortunately for me I got a defective unit. The green call button was all loose and when you press it, it clicks around and sits at different positions instead of flat like the red end button. So I had to call and as always T-Mobile's great customer support took care of it right away. They're sending a new one out and refunded all of my shipping costs. Now I have to wait another 3 days before I can use this sweet BlackBerry.
My first thought was to order new parts from cnn.cn and fix it myself but because I am paying full price ($500) I figured I might as well get a working one from the start.
I've been reading around all of the 8900 forums on many sites and I haven't really heard of anyone receiving any broken units. It looks like the is an isolated case but we will see as time goes on. - 01-27-2009, 06:16 PM #3
That really does suck big time. Sorry to heard of the bad experience. Look on the bright side, the phone will be even better now after the additional wait!

Sorry to hear you're having the same issue. I feel your pain! One of my buddies just responded to my cries about the green button with "I bet your new one shows up with a broken red end button" and then you posted your issue. It's almost comical but I'm not in much of a laughing mood now.

So are you allowed to buy the 8900 now from Tmobile if you are not a corporate customer?

I got mine back in December,& was also unlucky with the first unit that came by mail. The earpiece speaker was broken....as if it was disconnected internally. I could make/receive calls using speakerphone, but nothing when holding the phone to my ear. One quick call to CPW sorted it though,& I collected a brand-new replacement the very next day. Happily,no problems to report since then, and I've had my baby for about 6 weeks.

Had exactly the same problem with the green call button on my 8900 on orange uk- was one of the very first (like over a month ago).
Also had a very very loose battery cover and more worryingly, a faulty earpiece.
Had it replaced now and its perfect - 01-28-2009, 10:17 AM

I'm glad to hear everyone's first replacement was working 100%. It would suck to have problems again... I can't imagine having to go threw with this twice in one week.
It really sucks today because I'm home from work with a snow day and I could have been sitting here fiddling with the new phone. Now I am left just sitting here reading the forums and envying everyone's working phones.
On a happy note... all the accessories I ordered from daydeal will be arriving on Friday and hopefully the phone will also on the same day. It will be like x-mas in January. - 01-28-2009, 12:08 PM #16

I thought I'd update this thread to let you all know I got my replacement today. It took tmo less than 48 hours to get it in my hands. I'm happy to say that it is fully functional and I am now a happy camper.
I've just sat for a few hours transfering all my data, setting everything the way I like, adding apps (viigo, jivetalk, gmail... I'm starting slow) and I am very happy. It's gorgeous, the screen is impressive and the quality of the camera is a nice change for me.
The only complaint I have (aside from a slightly loose battery cover) is the speaker is very low and actually sounds a bit tinny. I cant say I'm to impressed with the speaker. My 8320 has always blown my mind when it goes off... it's so loud and handles the loudness without any distortion. I have read a few threads where people said .133 beta OS has made the speaker louder which is good to hear but I hope it doesn't continue to sound like the audio is coming out of a tin can.
Aside from that complaint I am a very happy customer and it will be nice to use the internet without checking UPS tracking every hour and constantly worrying the UPS guy will slack off or even worse not leave the package while Im at work!

SWEET!!! Another Success Story! Enjoy the new phone!
You can fix the battery door cover, there is a thread on that in this forum.

I'm definitely going to update to .133 but I figured I'd spend the wrest of the week just checking it out as it is. The first thing that came to mind when I heard the speaker was a few posts I've read here and other places about the speaker. So now doubt I'll be updating.
As far as the loose battery cover... I still have the defective unit here so I swapped the covers and both did exactly the same thing. I'm not to worried about it because I plan on getting the Seidio Innocase II. I have the Seidio on my 8320 and I can't image using the phone without it. It's going to be a rough 2+ weeks waiting on the 8900's version.
