Managing Connections
Hi,
I have the following question.
If both WiFi and Edge are ON, how will the device choose the best/fastest connection to browse, download, etc. ?
Thanks

I think if Wifi is connected it is the preferred network by default. But who knows. I doubt there is an agorhithm that does speed checking in the OS and redirects based on QOL.

It depends on your settings. Your browser will use the WiFi or EDGE connection depending on what configuration it is using:
Browser > BB Button > Options > Browser Configuration > Browser:
Hotspot = WiFi
Internet = EDGE
For calling it your settings determine this also:
Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options > Connection Preference
Keep in mind that your calling will only use WiFi (through UMA) if you carrier offers this service. I see that your carrier is Entel PCS. Aristile,
The funny thing is that I don't have the Connection Preference option under Mobile Network, how can this be ?
Thanks - 03-26-2009, 02:29 PM #6
Options > Mobile Network > Connection Preference
This is another way to get to the same setting."There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't."How To Search ~ Search Effectively ~ Crackberry 101 ~ WiFi Guide ~ UMA Guide ~ SD Card Info ~ BB Browsers Explained

Thanks, but it doesn't appear, I have tried a lot of times.
Could it be something my carrier could have blocked ?
The list of thing when I click on Mobile Network is:
Data services: ON
Mobile Network: Entel PCS
Network Selection Mode: Automatic
That's all there is. - 03-26-2009, 02:38 PM #8

Must be something your carrier has blocked in the firmware of the device. This probably means they do not offer UMA, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Thanks Aristile, but then again I'm not so excited about UMA but to the fact stated in my first post, wheter the browser will surf via WiFi or Edge when both are available.

I'm having some issues with saving the connection after I create the wifi. it asks me to save it, but it does not. very frustrating.
