Unhappy Keypad & Trackball stopped working!

i put my curve on charge all night and then in the morning unplugged it and all of a sudden my keypad and ball wont do ANYTHING!

since then iv done everything i can.

battery pulls
OS reloads
Wiped the device
factory reset
taken it to peices and cleaned every single part of it
checked for water damage (nothing)
tried draining the battery then recharging

NOTHING has worked! i know this is a common fault for 8900s

but does anyone know a fix? i dont want my berry to die

If you've already done everything that you said you did, it's probably dead.
Take it into a T-Mobile store, explain and see if you can get a refurbished one.

Does the UK usually use three year contracts or two?
Because if you've had it for two years, then you're probably due for an upgrade.
Also, yes, I understand you probably aren't under warranty but they should be able to help you in some way.

Well you've done basically everything that everyone else would tell you to do.
There's not much left to try....

I was about to post this exact same thread - I went in for a job interview this morning @ 9:30am and put my 8900 in my suit coat pocket, then when the interview ended @ 11am I noticed that it was 'off' (even though holding down the power button didn't do anything, which made me leery) so I did a battery pull when I got to my car, and yeah like you said, the keypad now no longer works nor the trackball - after a battery pull I can move the trackball, but I can't select anything, and once I stop moving it and the backlight turns off then the screen stays permanently black since none of buttons are being recognized.

It's extremely annoying because my phone still vibrates & flashes the different colored LED's (BeBuzz) to notify me of my emails, missed calls, texts, etc. but there's not a damn thing I can do about it. I was going to ask if doing a factory reset or reloading the OS would possibly help, even though it's clearly a mechanical issue, but based on your results posted above it doesn't fix it. I guess I'll try reloading my OS just for the heck of it so I can say I at least tried something besides 50 battery pulls today. My contract with AT&T expired 2 months ago and I've been holding out for the iPhone 5, so this really couldn't have happened at a worse time.

seen this before many a time, and it's usually the trackpad pcb thats at fault (it shorts out and blocks the keypad return signal).
this can be confirmed by opening the phone, disconnecting the trackpad pcb ribbon cable (gently, centre one on lcd side of mainboard) and powering up the 8900. You will probably find that on boot up your keys now miraculously work (although the trackpad wont as you've disconneted it).

Next step is to purchase a replacement pcb and may as well do the trackball while you've got it open (all for about half the cost of 1 month's rental)
