Well since you dont have the Blackberry Data plan, do what I do. Dont use any of RIM's apps because they all need at least BIS and use third party apps. Nimbuzz is a all in one chat client that works fine, or you can pay for Beejive.

You cannot use IM or BBM chat apps unless you have some sort of data plan, either a personal email or data plan. Just using prepaid voice with our blackberry does not give you use of IM or BBM. Would be nice but then everyone would get a Blackberry and use it for IM or BBM.

If they want to get sales they should sale blackberry data service for prepaid... as they sold me the phone for 350.00 and didnt say the fact... if they sale the phone in the store to prepaid users then they should sale the phone services to prepaid users dont you agree... ive been with atnt 3 years and all ive gotten out of them was hassle and i blew my money
if they really want to keep customers they should help them more

When you bought the phone, did you tell them you were using prepaid? If so, then the sales person should have told you what services would and would not work. If you didn't tell them you were using prepaid, they could assume you were buying the phone with plans to unlock it and use it with another carrier.

I agree, BBM is only exclusive to Blackberry contract users cause it's provided via their server. If you get a prepaid plan, it's not there service so they won't provide BBM service. You are correct, the sales rep should of informed you of that and if they gave you the run around, you should take it back. Not sure about your provider but we have a 15 day return policy here for any phone, prepaid or contact.
Someone here mentioned that Vodaphone had the BBM service for prepaid? Might want to ask him/her if that is actually correct.
Good luck. - 03-25-2010, 12:10 PM #12The lesson we learned from iPhone: People who can't walk and chew gum at the same time don't need a phone that can multitask...nobody likes a phone to be smarter than they are
Go RIM, Go BlackBerry. BlackBerry rules!

if you need to use messengers and cant use the ones you already have on the phone, download either nimbuzz or im+ lite. both are free to download. i like im+ lite because i can use it with and without wifi. i dont know how this is possible since i dont have a data plan, but it works without wifi!!

oh by the way, nimbuzz and im+ lite are an all in one chat clients where you can get online via msn messenger, aim, yahoo, gchat, facebook chat, icq, jabber, etc...
here is the link for im+ lite
