Youtube has some good videos. I took apart my 8900 many times, to replace/clean the ball, keyboard, etc. You need a "plastic tool" to pry off the parts of the frame that are stuck on with double-sided sticky tape (bottom and top). The rest is easy with a Torx screwdriver.
If you have a friend who is a dentist, the tool they use for Nobel or 3i implants can be easily modified to work. They are just a hex with pointy ends (star shaped).
Curve 8900 is now in my closet but it was a sturdy and reliable little phone. Battery started to crap out but you can find DX-1's on ebay for less than $10.
