Question Help with problematic 8900, reoccurring nuke

Okay, so I LOVE my 8900. I don't want to let it go any time soon, but something has come up, and unless I can get a fix, I'll have to replace it. About a month ago, I did a battery pull and while rebooting it just froze on a white screen. I left it for the day, and it was still frozen at a white screen (after the hour glass goes but before the Tmobile pops up). So, thinking it was a nuked berry I reloaded the OS and backup from my pc. This seemed to fix the issue. Then after two weeks of flawless operation, it happened again. I did another OS reload, and chose to not load the backup just in case it was something weird with it. That lasted about a week before it did it again. As of today I am on my 3rd OS re-install for this week alone. Does anyone have any thoughts? I'm not too techy so not sure what could be the problem here. The "water damage" stickers are all fine, and the only thing I have had to do was replace the LCD screen on it, but I did that well over a year ago. Thanks for any help.

What OS release are you loading, and did you wipe the device before installing a the new OS? How about battery life, does it seem normal?

I'm using the 4.6.1.231 release. As far as wiping the device, I couldn't on the first round because the phone was stuck, so I reloaded the OS then wiped and reloaded the OS again then the backup. Hope that makes sense. As for battery life, it had been doing really well, the current battery is just about six months old, however since this started happening, I have had to charge it midday with little to no use on it just to get it to last the day. Thanks again for any help.

I had the same exact issue with my T-Mobile 8900 a year ago, and was able to make the white screen go away permanently by upgrading the OS to 5.0.0.509. Hope this helps!

I'm going to try this, so... seems like I have to delete the current handheld OS that's on my PC, but none of the Crackberry 101's I've looked at mention this. Am I just on something or am I right? If I am right where do I find the files to delete them? I've checked under program files>RIM where you would delete the vendor file, but I don't think I see the OS. Thanks for the tips/help.

Try going into the Control Panel then click Add/Remove Programs. Hopefully the OS will show up on the list of programs so you can delete it. Good luck

I would get a copy of JL_Cmder and wipe the device clean. Also, 5.0.0.1607 is very stable, probably the best OS I've had on my 8900. Try using the loader.exe for the install instead of blackberry manager--plenty of tutorials here on using loader.exe. Good luck.

All right I'm losing it...

I got JL Cmdr, wiped the device using it's interface. I then attempted to install the 5.0.0.1607 OS. The problem is, whenever I try and install 1607 utilizing the Apploader method, it states that it can't find any software updates, and this is after the JL Cmdr wipe. I could only get it to install the 4.6.1.231 OS. I'm going to list the various methods I tried to get it to load .1607, and maybe somebody has an idea of what I could do to force it to load.

I used JL Cmdr, then Apploader to try and get it to load, didn't work.

After installing 4.6, I tried using the BB desktop software to perform an OS update, didn't work.

After the BB desktop didn't work, I tried updating using the Apploader, didn't work.

I tried once again with the JL Cmdr, then Apploader and again it refused to install the 5.0 OS.

Finally, I removed/uninstalled every single file that had to do with RIM/BB on my PC, and re-installed everything for a clean start to see if that would make a difference. I then attempted the same methods above to no success. I am really at a loss as to what could be happening. It installs the 4.6 OS with no problems whatsoever, other than the fact that it only functions for about 8 hours after the install before I have to do it all over again, but it will not install the 5.0 OS at all. Any help or ideas here would be greatly appreciated.
