    Default Getting exceptions/Cannot upgrade...HELP!!!

    Hello everyone,

I had a BB Curve on T-Mobile, which I got unlocked almost a year back...It worked fine for a few months, after which it froze, and since nothing was helping, I pulled the battery out. That is when trouble started and I started getting Java RIM exceptions on events like restart, saving new contact. Also, my call logs were not getting updated with the calls I made/received - only missed calls were getting logged. Am not sure if this is related to the exceptions, or my son fiddling with some setting (which I have not been able to trace till now).

Anyways, I decided to upgrade, thinking that it may resolve all issues, but am getting errors with the desktop manager. The exact error is -"A Fatal error has occurred while updating your device’s software. Please try again." I have tried skipping the backup and skipping all the optional components, but still get the same error.

My BB ver is 4.6 and DM ver is 4.7

I know this is lengthy, but I need help desperately.

For the call logs, hit the send button once, then menu. Choose options and you'll see the log settings, along with all other phone settings.

Your upgrade problem is m$ost likely due to a corrupt database. Try upgrading to the latest official Desktop, by clicking the "Check for Update" button on Desktop, or going to:

    Desktop Software v6.1.0 B38 (Multilanguage)

    File name: 610_b038_multilanguage.exe
    File size: 116 MB
    Date posted: 17-Feb-2012
    Download Software
View BlackBerry Desktop Software v6.1.0 User Guide

Do a backup with the new version, and it will show if there's a corruption, and which module it's in. Then we can come up with the best resolution for it. You might be able to upgrade using it too, but I'd hate to have you lose something important, before knowing what's wrong.

I had turned this option on earlier, and all my calls were getting logged to messages and not under the "Call Logs".

Also, on the upgrade, I downloaded the latest version of the Desktop Software, but when I try to upgrade, I get an error saying that I need to have the BB service...Is that true? Never knew that to perform an upgrade you would need to be on that. I currently use GPRS to connect to internet and do not use any apps, so never really bothered about getting the BB service.

(And I was able to backup without errors via the updated version...Thanks)

Yes, RIM requires you have a BlackBerry data plan to upgrade. Use Loader.exe and you shouldn't have that issue.

    64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
    32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader

Ok, so I presume that using loader.exe will not require the BB data plan.

Could you please confirm that this is what I need to do "Loader.exe /resettofactory". Also I hope my phone will not get locked again, since I had got it unlocked earlier.
