Cannot send or receive MMS messages!?!?!?!

So my wifes old samsung trace finally took a **** and I gave her my old 8900 curve for tmobile. She doesn't use data so no data plan on her account. I cannot send or receive and mms messages through her phone at all but I was able to with her old trace. I did a lil research and found that I may need a
"blackberry feature enabler" added to the account. I went to tmobile chat and asked if they could add it, they said no.....WTF? Any one have any ideas around this or do I really need to pony up for a data plan now?
