Default Can someone help me connect to my school's wifi?

EDIT: Ignore this and check the latest post, the security is no longer the issue. Thanks!

Here are their instructions for XP:
    http://www.drexel.edu/irt/support/wi...fly3/d3-xp.pdf

Here is what I currently have on my phone:

    Security Type: PEAP
    Username: 'my name'
    Password: *****
    CA Certificate: Thawte Server CA
    Inner link security: EAP-MS-CHAP v2
    Token: <None Selected>
    Server subject: radius.irt.drexel.edu
    Server SAN:

Automatically obtain IP address and DNS [x]
    Allow inter-access point handover [ ]
    Prompt before connection [ ]

I can connect to the wireless where it will say dragonfly3 at the top of my phone, but I can not browse the web, nor does the phone go into UMA mode. Can someone tell me if I have things wrong as above? Or will it just not work with the 8900?
    Thanks!

To use WiFi to browse the web you need to change your browser's setting:

Browser > BB Button > Options > Browser Configuration > Browser = Hotspot

As far as UMA goes, it is very possible the school's network is blocking ports that UMA needs to operate.

You have to do this ANYTIME you want to browse the web over a WiFi connection.

No need to double post. I answered that already in the other thread:

The other two options I have is Internet browser and T-Mobile, when do I use them and where?

Internet = browsing data on the cellular network, i.e EDGE

T-mobile = browsing via the T-mobile WAP browser = limited Internet access

For more information on what exactly each browser is for, check out the "Browsers Explained" link in my signature.

I got you. how about the Browser Identification selection. I read somwhere to keep it on IE and they said to keep SUPPORT JAVASCRIPT checked.

    Most people uncheck JavaScript support.

That depends on what you want to do. For mobile browsing, you want to use the Blackberry options. If you want to view the site like on your computer (or at least as close as it can display it) then use IE for Firefox option. I personally much prefer Firefox to IE. The phone will generally load pages much faster with Javascript turned off but sometimes you do need it to be turned on.

I have a WPA2 network at home (that does not use EAP) and the Security Type is set to "Pre-Shared Key", maybe you can try that (although I don't think it will work).

If you have a Computer Help Desk you might want to ask them. I'm sure they've dealt with a disgruntled professor who wanted their Blackberry connected via WiFi.

There are several ports which need to be open for UMA to work, but you need to get an active connection first!

    Good Luck!

Once I'm connected, I switch to hotspot and the wifi logo appears in the upper right instead of EDGE. When I try to go to a website though the edge logo comes back and it doesent use wifi. If I turn the mobile network off, I still cant browse the web. It eventually times out and gives me an error when using wifi only.

So I went to our tech help desk today, and he verified that I had the correct settings for dragonfly3. However, he couldn't do anything to get the 8900 to fully connect.

He had me try older versions of our campus' wireless that use WEP in stead of PEAP and they also connected, but had the gray icon.

So the issue is now on the 8900 I believe. A friend's iPhone had no issues connecting to all 3 versions of the school's wifi, so I can't blame the wifi at this point.

Upon checking diagnostics for my connections to dragonfly1,2 and 3, it never connects to Blackberry Infrastructure and under UMA it says the DNS server could not be reached.

Im running .133 right now, would it be advantageous to upgrade for wifi?

I would appreciate any advice you guys have, I will continue to do some google searches for this issue.

I'd also like to emphasize that it is not the security giving me an issue. I have abandoned attempts to connect only to the WPA2 network and will try to connect to our WEP network since it is a bit simpler. However, it is my belief that if I resolve the issue with the WEP network, WPA2 will then be working since it seems to be the same problem.

Just wanted to update in case someone can figure out what the **** is going on here :P.

Well I got a solid white wifi logo and a green checkmark, but I am not sure why this worked. I connected as usual (gray icon, white dash in connections) and noted down the assigned IP. I then edited the connection and disabled automatic setup of IP and DNS. I entered in the IP I had just had, and then copied all the rest of the information (DNS, gateway etc.) from my computer's connection on the WIRED network here at school.

Well by golly it works now, but I'm not sure for how long. My problem was that it was not discovering the DNS server before, but I am afraid that the IP I entered will only work for so long because it is usually automatically assigned. Is there any way to specify the DNS server but still have an IP assigned automatically?

    EDIT:
Looks like this guy is having the same issue:

Probably the router just needs to be restarted. This is as common problem.

:P I wish I could restart the router except it's managed by the school and serves our entire campus for wireless!

Yea, I figured that. Unfortunately that's probably the solution you need for DHCP to work. You are better off doing it manually like you have discovered.

Since disconnecting/reconnecting to Wifi, it now is back to where I was before, even when manually entering the DNS info.

Oddly enough, when I am connected and do a DNS lookup in wifi diagnostics, it has the same addresses that I entered manually when it is set to automatic.

I am very confused here folks.

It's not anytime is it? I can leave my browser to "Internet", turn off or disable my Edge and still browse. But I'm assuming that's because I have a UMA tunnel. Would I be able to browse without a UMA tunnel?

Hey guys. I fixed this today by first installing the .199 OS. This didn't fix it but could have helped? Anywho, the real fix came when I went into Wifi options and then hit 'Reset to factory settings.' I had to re-input all of my SSIDs, but now they all work!

WHAM BAM, time for an update.

I reverted back to OS .133 because every one I tried after that has an issue with cutting off the first .25 to .5 seconds of any audio file.

Now my wifi is back to being uncooperative. I tried restoring settings as I did with .199, but it does nothing! Wifi still connects to the SSID, but will not connect to blackberry infrastructure or UMA, which in turn removes my ability to browse the web with wifi.
