I'm not sure if I can help you with your first problem since I'm not familiar with dealing with a locked Blackberry.

However, I might be able to help you with your App World issue >> in my signature there are ota download links for all operating systems . . use your BB browser and click on whichever suits your BlackBerry

You're going to have to get it unlocked, check the unlocking services here on CB.

The network lock status of a BB has nothing to do with what software you can install. The branding does that. The instructions for loading other carriers' software cover how to bypass not being able to put 5 on a North American 8900.

You cannot use App World without a BlackBerry data plan.

Correct! It uses RIM's server in order to validate the connection.

Did you have a BlackBerry data plan in the past? If you have a BlackBerry data plan, it is possible to use App World over Wi-Fi, since the service books are present.

If you cancel the data plan, App World will no longer work over Wi-Fi.

Ok. That explains it. You cannot download anything using App World without an Internet BlackBerry data plan. You only have the messaging plan. Some Canadian carriers offer those plans. Here in the US, data plans cover everything (email, browsing, MMS, etc.).

Thanks for clarifying that lol. I was puzzled myself. Gonna need to find someone to extract the files so you can load them or find direct links not on app world.

I remember another poster who had only the messaging plan with one of the Canadian carriers, and she could not upgrade one of the IM to a newer version without having the ability to use the browser.
