Default BB 8900 without data plan

Hi everybody, I know this question was popped like couple times, but i looked at athe previous posts, they were all about the fighting on wasting money on Bb without data plan. So now i want to clarify my question one more time completely with your help, but please don't start the replies with something like it's a waste of money on Bb without data plan.

I'm currently using ATT with a normal line. Last week, i washed my basic phone along with the laundry so it's dead.
My uncle just gave me a Bb 8900 to use it instead. I see that the phone is pretty cool so i decided to keep it. It's original a T-mo 8900 but he unlocked it to use with ATT.

Here is my question, i know that ATT scan imei to automatically add the data plan to the phone. However, my phone is orginal from Tmo not ATT, do you think they will scan and know that my phone is a 8900 and add a data plan to it?
The fact is i dont want to add any data plan to it. I see it good enough for my daily use already because i have wifi all the time.
I dont need push mail service, i can use 3rd party mail application.

So far, i can see that most of the app i use such as Skype, Facebook... dont need a data plan. And ATT doesn't send any notification saying that i need a data plan yet. Is it good?

Any more limitations if i dont have a data plan that i haven't encounter yet? Can you guys list it down and give me a solution for it?

Any advice is welcomed and appreciated.
Sorry for a long post.

Thank you for reading!

Peace
Harry

I think that you will escape detection, however, you should realize that even sending emails, you will use more data than you wee used to on your feature phone. You will be charged for that data so be very careful.

I do not understand this. If you turn if you have Mobile Network *none*, how can you be charged for anything? I have been using wi-fi only for this last week on a BB that someone gave me.

Default AT&T Cellular Subscriber Reply

AT&T will let you use the phone as to just subscription for basic cellular but without taggling the IMEI to the phone to your account, then you get charged highest per minute use rate instead of your Plan rate. As to the WiFi, yes I have same WiFi and can connect with WiFi instead of through cellular so No you do not have to have a Data Plan however - this limits the use of the PDA when not within reach of Hotspot for WiFi then no email, no internet connectivity for Weather, Traffic, or any other practical app that helps when on the road commutting or traveling.
My advice - figure out an affordable monthly budget and get a basic data plan.
You will be much happier in long run with your BB PDA use.
