[BB-8900]

Overview:
My dad just sent me a Blackberry Curve 8900 second handed {3 hours used} from UAE to India. I don't know whether its locked or not. I just put in my Indian sim card & have been using it since a day now for texting and calling. I have Vodafone India's service. I have not activated any Blackberry specific Internet scheme or BBM. I use Nokia for internet till now.

I have not inserted any SIM or Memory Card while trying to upgrade as below..

Questions-

My BB has v4.6.1.310 & I need to upgrade it to the latest v5

I have tried the following to upgrade-

1. I plugged in my BB to Desktop Software latest version and checked for updates & as many of my friends told me, I found NO UPDATES AVAILABLE message.

2. Then I Downloaded AT&T's v5 .1067 from Crackberry's sticky thread and deleted vendor.xml file after installation.
Now when I click on apploader in common files\RIM, it tells me " the blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device softare "

I tried a lot looking for this issue but I could not find any concrete solution to it.
I even tried downgrading my Desktop Software Manager but still same problem.

I need to upgrade on my own because it takes a fortune here in India for the upgrade & I can't remember anyone being able to do it on its own.
HELP !

I feel maybe I don't have a BB Internet scheme with my carrier, so that's the reason it isn't happening or because I don't put any SIM while doing it so problems ?

Pls. tell me if any more information is needed.

Hi, Welcome to Crackberry... enjoy your Blackberry Curve 8900
If it's working with a sim card from a carrier which is other then the one your Blackberry curve 8900 was sold by then your Blackberry is unlocked.

You need to delete ALL the vendor XML files before you update the OS.
Run a search on your PC for the vendor.xml file, there is nore then one file - and delete them all... then reinstall the OS.
