PLEASE HELP ME

I have a Blackberry Curve 8900 which is a new handset as my last one got the white screen of death so O2 replaced the handset due to not being able resolve the problem, i received this new handset in December 2011 and i noticed that last night although it had been fully charged in the morning the battery was dead! i presumed this was due to me playing a game on it for an hour or two yest however this morning when i woke up the handset had been on charge all night and when i unplugged the charger i had a black screen with a battery symbol on and a red cross through this!

I have tried pulling the battery
Putting the handset back on charge
pressing the esc key for 10-15 seconds
linking it up to my PC
nothing at all will work

if anybody at all can give me any hints tips anything i will be much appreciative as i do not want to send my phone off yet again loosing all my data because of this problem

There has now a white bar that has appeared at the bottom of the said battery symbol and red cross through i wonder if maybe the phone has died but has not charged up due to the plug socket on the adapter being broke? ive no idea PLEASE PLEASE help xxxxx

Just thought id update you guys ive fixed my problem with the phone, i purchased a new battery and it works brilliant now.
