Exclamation 8900 Invalid SIM Card?

I tried unlocking my blackberry not long ago, and it kept freezing after typing in the code. I asked the guy who sold me the code if he knew why this was, and he said it was probably because of the firmware, so I updated it, only, not knowing much about blackberrys, I think I degraded it.
I can't tell you what the firmware was before, but I can tell you the firmware i've got now:
(Current) Application Version: v5.0.0.411
(Current) Platform Version: 5.2.0.31

Diagnostic Report:
Signal Level: Unknown
Radio Access: Unknown
Network: Unknown
IP Address: Unknown

My phone wont accept my original SIM card, nor will it accept any other SIM cards, but these SIM cards work in other phones.

When I bought the phone (off of a friend) it was working, but it wasn't unlocked, so I tried unlocking it, and now this has happened.

If I take it into one of those phone unlocking guys that plug that cable thing in, will it work?
Anyone know what I can do?

Thanks!! My phone is only a brick at the moment, needs fixing ASAP!

Default Blackberry 8900 unlocking

How do you unlock it?

You should go into the SIM card options (under advanced options) and type MEPD then you will see a few lines... is any of those lines listed as "active"... they should all be "disabled" on unlocked Blackberry phone.

If the network line is "active" you should type MEP2 (hold the [ALT] key to type #2) and then you should be asked to enter the unlock code.

if the code is correct you should have a "code accepted" massage.. if not then a "code error" massage..

what happens with your device when you do that?

There might be a hardware issue with the device. Try the mepd and see if it unlocked. Also check the actual sim contacts underneath the battery to see if there is any damage.

When I enter the code, a message pops up saying "code accepted", and then the phone freezes. Will Blackberry charge me to send this into them if I'm NOT on contract?

The phone isn't unlocked, it has disabled under Network I believe.

What to do pleas help!!

"Disabled" next to Network means that it is unlocked.
