Wi-Fi issues, unlock related?

Hi all Im new here on crackberry but i thought this is the best place to ask for help.

I have a used 8520 and it was unlocked by previous owner. The phone originally was with Orange network as when the phone starts up the graphics come up as orange etc as well as branding on the casing.

The problem i have is > the wifi will no longer turn on error " unable to turn on wifi "
this happens no matter what i do no matter what settings ( ive tried all recommended fixes ). I have an O2 sim which works fine as far as text and calls go, but i cant get wifi to turn on. I can use the internet using EDGE etc but i cant use my home broadband via wifi
I even tried to use my partners O2 sim with BBdata plan and still no joy.

Am i right in thinking that once a blackberry is unlocked from original carrier they can restrict or disable the use of wifi on a device that was originally branded as theirs ?
And if so, will using an orange sim get wifi working again ?

I have read that unlocking can disable the wifi is this correct ?

Any help with the above questions will be of great help, thanks in advance

First of all, unlocking your Blackberry curve 8520 won't effect anything, it will simple do one thing only - When your Blackberry 8520 is unlocked with a remote service using MPE unlock code it will just disable the SIM lock that blocks the device from connecting to other network carriers. Unlocked Blackberry has no SIM locks activated and it's a SIM free device that will connect to any carrier by using a SIM card.

The WIFI won't work properly if you are not using the right service books that used by your carrier.
You also need the Blackberry data plan so simple contact your carrier and get a Blackberry Data plan and update the service books if you want to use the data services properly.

You can also use another browser like Opera mini if you are not interested in adding a data plan from your carrier to your unlocked Blackberry curve 8520 mobile device.
