Default Using new account on old Blackberry, please help!

Apologies if this has already been asked (and/or is a ridiculous question that I should have been able to work out myself), I'm new to the world of Blackberry and have been given an 8530 by a friend who left the USA so has no further use for it.

I've been to the Virgin Mobile website and created an account using the handset serial number and all my personal information, and the account appears to have been created and a monthly plan paid for, and I've had a confirmation email of my new number, phone serial number, etc etc. According to the website, the new number and owner information should update themselves on the Blackberry, but try as I might, it still has the old number and old contact details. When I try to change the email settings I get an unable to connect message, similarly for updating profile, preferred network, everything.

How do I get the account to update?! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

First you will need to ensure that your BB has the Virgin Mobile logo on it. VM does not support phones with SIM cards so their BB phones are specially made. I've never even been able to get a jailbroken phone working with VM service. If that checks out then you will need to call Virgin Mobile support at 8883221122 and specifically request someone trained in BlackBerry support. They will walk you through the activation process in about 15 minutes. Good luck.
