Unique battery problem, please help?
I've had the 8530 from sprint for abouta week and a half my battery life on the weekend is great and will last the whole weekend but during the weekdays when i have class it's not all good. i have a couple classes where there is absolutely no service and this drains my battery within the 7 hours im in class. is there anything i can do to make sure the battery will last other then turning the phone off.
i turn off wifi
bluetooth
backlight is at its lowest
all apps are closed
gps is set off
Is there anyway i can tell the phone to not look for service when there is none? and can the curve on sprint even work on 3g because all i ever see in michigan is 1EXV and then the bars never will it say 3g - 03-16-2010, 08:50 PM #2
1XEV is CDMA 3g. If you've got 1XEV you've got 3g. If you are in a poor service area, you can turn off you network connection. That will still allow you to listen to music or use functions like the calculator or play games that don't require network access. Go to Manage Connections and uncheck your Mobile Network to turn off the network connection.

1EXV is 3G.
You said you have no service at all. If it is really so and you cant send/receive sms and make calls, just simply turn the network connection off. The device will stop looking for signal and thus stop wasting battery.
At the times you are not using data, set the device to 2G (EDGE) instead of 3G (1EXV). Thatwill also save you some battery.
I would not call your problem unique thou... - 03-16-2010, 09:56 PM #4
Schools are notorious for having poor reception, especially in interior classrooms. Turn the phone off or turn your radio off and just turn it back on when you need to check for emails or phone calls. There are applications available that will turn off service, but they periodically check the signal level so I'm not sure if that would be beneficial or not.

You can't manually switch from 3G to 2G. "2G" is 1X on the Sprint Network. If you've got your BB owner's guide, there's a chart at the back that shows what all the different symbols mean when it comes to the signal strength.
The phone will automatically look for the strongest signal it can find. At my house, I rarely get 3G AKA 1XEV. 90% of the time I'm at home, I'm on 1X but I've got a full signal and my phone works fine.
You can also get 1Xev which means you're not connected to the BlackBerry network. The uppercase EV means you are connected to the BlackBerry network, and lower case means you are not. You are still connected to Sprint but not to BlackBerry.
Edit - Attached a screen shot of the wireless indicator coverages.

Sorry ColdSunshine but I think you can. And I think you mean "3G". 2G is EDGE, isn't it?
