Question Is Sprint Full of Crap? Help?!

Short story, have 3 phones all Blackberry Curve 8530, black(mine), purple(wifes), and red(daughters).

The Purple curve was stolen back in September, temporarily replaced with a nokia i110 or something. I recently bought a used Purple Curve 8530 on ebay and of course expected issues because it's used.

I called Sprint, went through their steps to activate and it could not update the profile. I was eventually informed that there was an outage, I expressed my doubt because I have 2 other phones without issues, and they stated it can affect different phones sometimes. After the call I realized that the phone does send/receive texts but cannot use web or make/receive calls (although random voicemails have appeared.)

I have since called back twice and been told this information is true, and it is due to how the MEID communicates with the network. They have also stated that there are two separate outages and the 3g outage is what is affecting my ability to update the profile and have the phone fully activated. This is not expected to be cleared until March 2012. Again, the other 2 phones are fine and receive the 3g signal.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? If the phone is the issue I can return it within 30 days for a replacement but if there really is an outage I don't know whether I should swap phones or try to get out of the contract early (renewal is in July 2012)

Any input is appreciated, thank you!

I wouldn't exactly say sprint is full of crap, I think that when you buy a phone off ebay anything can go wrong. Did you try going into a Sprint retail store and having the phone wiped clean and reset. I also get the so called insurance, so when things go wrong I can get a phone that works. It appears that your blaming Sprint for a phone that you purchased off ebay that doesn't work.

That is what I'm trying to determine.. I realize buying a used phone is risky and I did have the insurance but that doesn't cover stolen phones otherwise none of this would be an issue.

Over the phone they had me do some commands to wipe it clean prior to any activation process, I have not taken it to a store though.

If it is true that an outage could affect each device differently then I am likely to have the same result regardless of what phone I get.. I even inquired about buying a new phone while speaking with them, but I wouldn't want to do that if there's a chance I still won't be able to use it.

For insurance purpose lets say the phone is LOST (hint). Usually an outage effects all phones in the area, maybe just maybe its the PHONE

Thanks spencerdl,

I was pretty sure it's the phone too.. Sprint's insistance on it being an outage is why I asked here. I guess I'm either buying a new one or swapping this one.

As far as saying it's lost vs stolen, I think I only had insurance that covered mechanical failure. If there's another type they certainly didn't inform me during the rest of their add-on sales pitch
