Default SMS characters allowed...?

Hi,

Could anyone tell me why I can only send 70 characters in a SMS on the BlackBerry Curve 8520, as opposed to the standard 160 characters? More than 70 characters, sends it into another text, which means I'm paying twice the price for what I would normally pay for just one text. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Go into your SMS options and set the "data coding" to 7 bit. This should allow 160 characters. Don't understand it all, but the UCS2 function limits it to 70 characters. (at least that has been my experience when I was "playing" with the options).

Thanks for the reply. I've just done as you suggested and changed it to 7Bit but no, I'm still only allowed to send 70 characters per text.

Have you tried a soft reset or battery pull since you've changed it to 7Bit?

Yes. I did a battery pull after changing the settings to 7Bit, but to no avail.

Edited to say: I've resolved the problem myself. I had the language input set as 'Césky' because it's the only language option available that will allow me to type in Irish (because of the fadas/accent marks) but I've just changed it to English and now have the standard 160 characters for an SMS. Thanks for the help anyway.
