Default Is it safe to use a magnetic holster case on blackberry?

Using a magnetic holster case for your BlackBerry phone will not hurt it now or at any time.

I always felt the magnetic holsters were most appropriate for the "Bold" models that has contacts on the bottom edge of the device ...

    with the 85xx I wonder what they'll do ...

The phones are all DESIGNED to be used in magnetic holsters, and all of RIM's own OEM holsters have similar magnets.

It's one of my favorite BB features; easily allows for different behavior. Might be replaced by NFC, but I wonder at whether it will be as reliable.

...and those contacts on the Bold are just for charging, they don't have anything to do with the magnetic cases...

When you put a BlackBerry in a holster with magnet, it goes into Holster Mode, a mode that is designed to save battery and to free unused memory for you.
It is only good for your BB (and for you when the battery last longer).
