Poor network access Sprint BB Curve 8530
I can't find my original post nor the responder who advised me to contact Sprint and "Retention" - and I want to publicly thank him/her? I've contacted Sprint informing them I have little access to the Sprint (or any other) carrier network from my home. Didn't have it before with my plain cell phone and now that I have the Blackberry with all its bells and whistles am increasingly frustrated at inability to get calls, e-mail, internet access etc.... i called Sprint and they are sending me (they say) an Airave device to plug into my ethernet cable (on my Time Capsule - I have an iMac) which they say "should" improve the access as it acts like a mini-tower. I'm to receive it this week and will let you know if it helps at all. Any improvement would be great! So I thank you - whoever you are - for the idea. HOpefully it will work.
Appreciate the advice and guidance.

How much did they charge you for it if you don't mind me asking. I have little to no cell coverage at my home either, and I am very interested in this. Keep us posted on how well this works.

Yeah I've heard about this too, but I think it's a pay per month thing. I had to call Sprint twice complaining about no coverage just in front of my building. It's so strange. Down the block is fine.
I have this amplifier, but it could be better. They told me they sent someone out both times, I wonder if it's my building.
Let us know if they charge you.

Status update: Installed the AiRave device this a.m. - remember I told y'all there are NO cell towers near me and Sprint coverage is the pits - using my new Blackberry Curve 8530 just intensifies the problems since it has more bells & whistles that won't work well. DH installed the device this a.m. - very easy to do. One end of plug into ethernet port on my Time Capsule router, another end into power source, small black box battery-looking device (GPS finder?) taped to window. Waited a couple of hours and voila for the first time in 10 years in this house, I have BARS!!!! We have BARS!!! DH's plain ole cell phone and my BB.
We've had Sprint as carrier for years and I never thought of calling to see what they could do to help me until "someone" in this forum suggested I call them and ask if they could do anything to keep me as a customer. They did not charge me for the Airave nor for the monthly cost UNLESS I discontinue the Sprint service. If I do so will have to send it back (understandable) or if it doesn't work or help, I can also send it back. So, can't speak for the long run but right now, all of the house has better coverage and maybe, just maybe I'll be able to send and receive phone calls. BTW there is a special tech number at Sprint to call for AiRave questions and they were very helpful, even as far as calling me back tomorrow to check on the status. That, my friends, is the kind of customer service we rarely get anymore.....

Congrats! I've been hearing good things about the Airave. Fortunately for me, I have good coverage already.
And this goes to show Sprint is willing to go extra miles to retain as many customers they can. Sprint's customer service did a 180 a year and a half ago, and is now excellent! - 03-03-2010, 05:46 PM #6
The Airave is kinda buggy and only supports voice and 1x data, two of the issues with it...
