I would recommend trying the hybrid. Also the Precision Zen 7 theme is awesome.
is there any requirement for a current OS5 installed on the 8520 before applying JSL7.0 hybrid? because im currently using 5.0.0.1036

and what are the cons on having a hybrid os?

No requirement. You can do a full wipe and install the JSL hybrid. Don't forget to back up before you wipe though. I did mine just last week and did not encounter errors. It has just been recommended to do a selective restore, things you've input into your phone yourself (contact list, memos, calendar, messages.. etc.).

I don't know if there are any cons to having a hybrid. This is the first time I'm using one and from what I've researched, I haven't read anyone complaining about it.

I've been running a hybrid for several days now and I have noticed a better battery life but I still don't get a full day's worth. I do have a lot of apps running, especially my social apps that I've set to refresh. But, yes, JSL 8520 7.0 definitely has a better battery life than the OS .1036 I was running on.

I've also noticed my phone is snappier now and more free memory (could be also because it's a fresh install). Browser-wise, still the same. I don't notice any increase or smoother browsing experience.

Besides battery life, I'm wondering what other improvements the JSL hybrid users have noticed.

It'll now take longer to fully recharge ur phone. With 1036 it takes a maximum 50 mins where as JSL took a good 1 and a half hours.
Other than this no cons at all. Infact my phone had become a lot more snappier and I was always high on memory. Though I had around 15 themes installed and that many apps my memory never went below 95 MB, which in turn gives the phone more space to have a blast.

Battery life is amazing. I can go all day with heavy use(wifi, hundreds of text and calls and a bt headset) on a full charge. I've only found one issue with this OS.

When I plug my phone up, the clock pops up but the charging indicator dose not change. I have to go into Status to make sure it's charging..lol

I cam from JSL 7.0 and like this OS about the same I liked v7 except for the charger icon. Speeds great, BB Browser still takes forever to load but overall it's a good OS. I'm gonna do a full backup and do a reinstall. Did anyone shrink there's? If so, what did it shrink down to? My free ram is aroun 140 and my free app space after a clean install is close to 150.

    Anyway, thats my 2 censt.

I came from JSL v7 to this install and my battery life suffered, on same use. Perhaps I do a reinstall and report. Been on it for two weeks now. Charging indicator as reported above only blinks when the Zen theme is installed. My other themes haven't got the blinking charge indicator.

how about having this JSL 7.0, can it handle a running app at the background without any lags or hangs?

I've been using it for the past week or so(whenever it was posted) and since it's settled, I have noticed more battery use then with JLS v7(going back to it after i finish this post).

I new OS is nice, but the charger icon only working on the stock theme sucks as well as the new, only slightly, shorter battery life.

I have since gone back to JSL V7. This above OS drains battery in 5hrs even with no apps installed. Maybe something I didn't do right. But since my BB is my primary device I couldn't stand the lousy battery life. Other than battery I have no other issues with it. Someone make an OS from it with improved battery life then I can consider going back to it.

battery life turned out to be worse than my previous os. i would recommend either the vodafone or at&t releases for better battery life, although everything else worked great

Refer to previous posts, I posted a link on how to do an upgrade. You'll need your USB cable and your Desktop Manager.

i dont think this is version 5.0.0.1805.

    8520wifijEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1805_PL5.2.0.113_A5.0.0.1036_Redington__India__Limited.exe

the one in bold would usually be the OS version. because it shows the filename 1805 as the release bundle version.

can someone check this by going to the about screen and it should be the 3rd line?

Backup BBM list (BBM>Options<Look under Backup Management > Save a backup of your contact list) then use DM to back up your files before you upgrade your OS.
