Need Update For 8530
Stock Boost 8530 and not really liking that my phone will not notify that I have new voicemail only an icon. What OS has this fixed and version I should update the phone?
Thanks! - 04-26-2011, 10:57 PM #3
I believe that you only get that type of notification (icon only) for voicemail no matter what OS 5 version you run. I'm on Boost also and if you do as described above this post by checking for an update in your advanced options it will probably show there are no updates available, (you can see what OS version you are using by clicking "About" in the Options settings.) I believe mine was showing 5.0.0.654 as the OS, I tried several before settling on the 5.0.0.886 from Verizon, you can use any carriers 8530 OS just need to delete the vendor file before installing...check the link in my sig for OS install instructions. Here's a list of OS's for different countries:

I am at the stock version OS that the phone came with. Version 5.0.0.654. When I check for an updated OS from the phone it say's 'No updates available'. My previous 8330 phone had voicemail notification that went in the SMS/MMS icon when I get a new voicemail. Now it only shows an a voicemail icon on the main screen. I may just update to that version that you are mentioning. So any version of 5.0 will no longer have that voicemail notification in SMS/MMS as I had with the 8330?

Nope, not an option as far as I can see under notifications...maybe look for a 3rd party app.

So is voicemail notification(appears under messages) something of the past? Will I lose my themes & apps when I update?

I'm not sure if there ever was audio notifications for voice mail...perhaps an older OS build. If you use the BB desktop manager you can make a backup...I would also use BBSAK to backup your apps, just in case. Not sure if either one backs up themes though...I didn't have any when I installed my current OS...can you re-download just in case?
BBSAK is found here: BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife and it's free.Last edited by echo2011; 04-27-2011 at 09:10 PM.
