Default Internet Connection

I have an 8520. How can i tell to which internet I am connected. Sometimes my screen shows the name of my home network and other times there is only the name of my phone service provider (T Mobile). On both occasions there are little arrows flashing in the top right hand corner of my screen. What I am trying to avoid is using more of my internet allowance supplied by T Mobile than I am allowed.
Hope this makes sense.

When it shows your "home network", you are connected to that.
When it shows your "phone service provider", you are connected to that.

The "little arrows flashing" indicate in both cases that information is being transferred over the network being displayed.
