Default How I reduced reboot time

Just wanted to share some info regarding reducing reboot times. It was driving me crazy.

It used to take me about 10 minutes to restart my 8520. I disabled Memory Cleaner and removed all themes I wasn't using - reboot time decreased to about 3-4 minutes! I think DreamTorch was the main culprit as far as themes go.

Hope this helps some people.

Which OS are you using? My move to my wireless' approved version of OS 5 from 4 has resulted in an absolutely glacial reboot.
I'm trying to imagine how long it would be if it was ever 'upgraded' to OS6...

Question

My reboot time is about 8 minutes. I've removed the themes I'm not currently using. How do you disable Memory Cleaner?

I just upgraded to 5.0.0.1036, and the reduction was done with 5.0.0.822.

For memory cleaner, go to options-security options-advanced security options-memory cleaning and make sure memory cleaning status is disabled. Hopefully this works for you.

I timed my BlackBerry device. It took about 10 minutes to boot from a battery pull. I turned off Memory Cleaner and it shed off 4 minutes.

Question is: doesn't the device need to clean up the memory? How do we do it manually if we disable the feature from bootup? And it also hides/removes the icon when it's disabled.

No. It doesn't, all it does is if your phone starts to run low on memory, it just deletes random emails, messages, etc. So, if you are good about deleting old messages, etc, you don't really need it turned on. I've used a BlackBerry phone for over 4 years, and I've never had a problem with it turned off that whole time.

I'll try it out for a while and see how the device maintains. Thanks, MissoulaMarinerFan.

One more thing, I think it's related: should I have logmaid installed? Or is ALT LGLG the same thing?

If logmaid just clears your logs periodically, then you don't need it, the alt LGLG would do the same thing. I've had my curve for about 1.5 years, and I've only done the alt LGLG like 2/3 times, because I've always had enough memory. Not sure if doing alt LGLG right before a reboot would speed up the time or not.
