    Default help with new 8520

Hi all. Got a few probs with my new BB. I acquired it because i did have a Galaxy S but broke that yesterday so have this for the moment. Think i might keep it if i can get it running properly because i really wasnt impressed with the Galaxy.

First off, i tried to download BB App World, but it isnt anywhere to be found. Thought it should have been in downloads but its not, but it is listed under applications in the options menu.

Secondly, i cant set up my email on it, when i try, it just comes up with a box saying 'your device had a problem connecting to te server'

And thirdly, i downloaded facebook for it through the internet, but it comes up with a box saying 'you are currently on a service plan that does not support this application. If you want to use this application, please contact your service provider to upgrade your data plan', any help anyone can give me?

Im guessing the prob is down to the fact that my sim is on a service plan for the Galaxy S. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas on how to get round any of this?

    Cheers

    John

Sounds like you need to call your provider and get a BIS data plan. The features you are looking for won't work without BIS.

What Galaxy S phone did you have? That is a line of phones and not just one. I have a Samsung EPIC 4G and its a Galaxy S phone, there is also a Vibrant and Captivate, each on different carriers. haha ok really thats not important. I was just curious as i happen to like android devices.
If you simply put your sim card in there then ransonju is right, you need to have a Blackberry Data plan added to your account. BIS, aka Blackberry Internet Service is a basic plan that most US carriers offer. All blackberry data runs thru blackberry. So putting your SIM in a BB wont give you BB data features.

I had the same problem with appworld. It showed up in the applications list, but i couldn't find it anywhere.

So here is the solution (worked for me): open up your browser, on your BlackBerry, and go to url: http:Download BlackBerry App World. Here you can download BB Appworld over the air, i guess it will prompt updating, from previous version to the new one, click yes. Then you will find appworld in your downloads folder.

And for facebook... You must have BIS or BES data plan. RIM's native clients (FB, Twitter, FourSquare) wont work without it. Try to look for an app on appworld called ,,Snaptu". It has many nice features, such as FB and Twitter, adn it's free. I neither have a data plan, so Snaptu is the perfect app for me.

About the email accounts, I don't know anything, because I do not use it. I'm using LogicMail, it's an e-mail client for BlackBerries, and it works well for me.

Hi guys thanks for the help. Got it all sorted. Got the Blackberry Data Plan on my service plan now so facebook etc works, updated the software on my phone and managed to get the app world, and email is now sorted.

With regards to the Samsung, it was the Galaxy S I9000 I have, to be honest i think most of the problem lies with the fact my coverage from Orange seems to be crap, but there are some aspects of the phone that really do annoy me. Going to get the Galaxy replaced through the insurance then decide what phone i am going to keep

    Cheers
