Emoticon/smiley face symbols on 8520

I have got my 8520 and on the whole I absolutely love it. The only thing that I cant figure out is when sending an sms I cannot insert the smilies

The manual tells you to press the symbol key 3 times which I have been doing but it just shows me the 2 pages of symbols for %$£& etc.

Can anybody help me with this please. I contacted vodaphone but they said I had to call blackberry!!

The answer is no you can't have emoticon on the sms/email. As for the reason, please refer tp this thread on BlackBerry forums.

Edit: move along, above information is obsolete with OS5+BBM5

^ wait phill those icons look newly upgraded and colorful.. different from the standard BBM ones...

also, has anyone noticed that BBM 5.0 icons are ugly as hell? I miss the old ones, but it looks like they upgraded them in the SMS ones according to that picture? Is it the same for BBM 5.0?
